Burbage Carnival 2011 was Brilliant !

"Burbage at its most brilliant." That was the verdict of
organisers of Sundays charity fundraising Fathers day Gala Carnival
as crowds of over six thousands people flocked to Burbage for a big
party. An hour and a half long parade took place which
twisted itself through the residential roads of Burbage, with large
numbers of people spotted having BBQs in their front lawn whilst
the colourful parade passed by.
Throughout the day, 205 people performed on the field arena,
along with music from Castle Mead radio. Stalls lined the field on
Britannia road with local charities having made an estimated
£11,000 from the event.
Committee member Ian Coe said: "It is really like a big garden
party, certainly the same budget. It has been lovely - a really
super day." The day was organised by The Burbage Carnival and
Firework Association team - a group of Community spirited people
who help raise much needed funds for local Burbage and Hinckley
Charities.
Carnival Chairman Harvey Brown said: "We all chipped in
with our time and effort, and have helped create this wonderful day
for the area, Burbage carnival is now a firm favourite in the local
calendar, we have already had people wishing to book for next year,
we would like to give a huge thanks to the Burbage parish council
for their support in ensuring that the day was fun and safe for the
local community, the local police for their support and our major
sponsor D.Tallis hire for supplying free of charge their fleet of
vehicles to be transformed into television themed floats..
Darren Alexander, aged 87 said "during the Carnival parade
the children had a great time and kept smiling throughout, I think
it is really great for all of the children to get together and see
what others have been doing - it is a real sense of community."
Alex Tunbridge, 17, from Shelthorpe, said: "The parade was
amazing - really cool, with all the different floats and the
effort, especially for the children as a lot of the costumes were
made by the children."
Councillor Noel Robinson is looking forward to this top
event returning next year, and said "The carnival is now one of the
best events around, and does a great deal of good for the area, I
really would like to encourage anyone who would like to help make
the 2012 event to give the carnival team a call NOW and volunteer
