Burbage Bonfire, Fun Fair & Fireworks 2011
This years Burbage charity fireworks and bonfire display helped
to raise a record breaking sum of money for for local charities…. A
great achievement for those charities which are having tough times
due to the current economic difficulties. The event took over
£10,000 beating last years (then) record figure of around
£9,000
The display was one of the best ever seen in Burbage, free multi
coloured glowsticks were handed out to the crowds filling the
evening darkness at the historic Britannia fields. The land was
once part of the ancient three field system which operated in
Burbage during Medieval times and existed during the times of the
famous Guy Fawkes gun powder plot to change the government in 1605.
The hedge row at the western hedge of the field is one of the
oldest hedges in Burbage, being at least 600 years old.
This year, a special competition was held to create a guy, as
visitors arrived to the event, donations were made for the best guy
with Hayley and Lorna Sherwood winning the child category with a
wonderful Guy fawkes, and Cari Jones family joint winning the adult
category with a brilliant i.Fawkes.
Mr Harvey Brown, Chairman of the Burbage fireworks and Carnival
team thanked the hard work of countless volunteers including
Burbage Cricket club and the Hinckley and Burbage Lions who helped
create the great charity community event the thousands of people
attending the event. This year has been a wonderful year for
Burbage with the best carnival and fireworks events the village has
seen for many years, with a great many charities that will benefit
at its annual awards ceremony - to be held early next year.
Parish Councillor Noel Robinson said "the firework display was
like a big garden party, but on a much bigger scale - it had a
really nice community feel. As part of the organising committee, I
would like to appeal to members of the community to volunteer some
time and join us in creating some brilliant and fun community
events next year".
The event was supported by a number of companies including
Balloonatics, The Rocketmen, Red Morello website design, Thistle
Loo hire, Brookfield Signs, Both Burbage Post offices, The Red
Lion, The Chequers, The Sycamores, The Anchor and Tilton Road
Stores . One of the areas best loved DJ's Kevin Towers was at the
event, making sure the crowd are entertained and were playing some
great music along the way…
The event had a dedicated website, which was created and run for
free by local website company Red Morello. Which helped massively
in reducing the queues nearly doubling the pre-brought tickets for
the well attended event by using an online payment facility for
tickets. For photographs and videos of the evening please visit the
